The Caribbean Federation of Police Welfare Associations was established in Nassau Bahamas on the 25th May 2007. The main aims of the Federation are to represent the welfare of Police officers around the region and to assist the Association of Caribbean Commissioners of Police (ACCP) in its new and existing mandates. Antigua and Bermuda, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenada, Dominica, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Jamaica, Guyana and host country the Bahamas started the Federation and developed a draft constitution. Following the Bahamas meeting, there were follow up meetings in Barbados then later in Jamaica. For a period of a few years, the federation went dormant. However, in 2012 after consultation with St Lucia executive headed by Constable Martin James, a meeting was held in St Vincent and the Grenadines and an interim committee were set up with Brenton Smith Sgt 509 (ag) and chairman of the SVG PWA being appointed as the President. St Lucia became the latest member of CFPWA. In January of 2013 another meeting was held in St Lucia and on 25th May 2013, history was created in Nassau Bahamas when the draft constitution was completed, and an executive was elected to run the affairs of the Federations for a period of two years. Mr Richard Corbette of Trinidad and Tobago was elected as the first president of the Federation, Dwight Smith of the Bahamas vice President, First vice president Brenton Smith of St Vincent and the Grenadines and General secretary Anand Ramasar of Trinidad and Tobago. During this period the Federation faces several challenges such as the registration process, membership dues, Sponsorship among others. In 2014, at the federations third annual General meeting at the Murray’s Height Hotel in Kingstown St Vincent a new president of the federation was elected and saw Vincentian Brenton Smith being elected at the helm. At the Federation Fourth annual conference in Kingstown St Vincent in June 2015, the Federation received its first sponsorship from Medical air services (MASA) membership dues were finalised and on April 8th, 2015 the Federation was officially registered as a non-profitable organization in the Twin Republic island of Trinidad and Tobago. This, of course, paves the way for the Federation to operate as a legitimate body. In May 2018 in Turks and Caicos Island the Federation Elected its Third President in Mr. Anand Ramesar of Trinidad and Tobago to carry out the Business of Federation for the next two years.
